Opening Credit Analysis
Opening Credit Analysis
The five opening credit scenes that I chose for this blog were Almost Famous, Dazed and Confused, Jackass, the Umbrella Academy, and Stranger Things. These are all shows or movies that I've watched and enjoyed, but there would have been some other cool ones that I couldn't include. For instance, Deadpool and the boys are both ones that I wanted to do but I just couldn't find the right frame (if that makes sense.)

The first one is from Dazed and Confused, and it's also one of my favorite movies. (It's tied with almost famous.) Anyways, since the movie is a coming-of-age film from the 70s, the movie starts with little bits and pieces of clips of the characters that we’ll soon know. It's synchronized with the Aerosmith song ‘Sweet Emotion,’ and right when the beat drops, the car engine starts and rolls in along with the title clip.
The second one is Almost Famous and it's another one of my favorite movies. The opening shot or credits are the main character, William, who's an aspiring journalist writing down the actor's names and credits. Ultimately, he writes down the title “Almost Famous” and then the movie starts. It contributes to the mood overall because it seemed more realistic since William is a journalist and he is writing down all these names and whatnot.
Now, this clip is from Jackass, a comedy reality TV series. It's my favorite film franchise, meaning one that has multiple movies rather than the one-and-done like the ones previously listed. Its opening shot is a warning clip telling the viewers not to try it at home since most of these men are trained professionals and our experienced. I felt like it perfectly captured the chaos that was about to happen.
Moving on to TV shows is one of my long running favorites ‘The Umbrella Academy.’ In the series, every episode is introduced with a little bit in the beginning that starts off the show and then somehow it turns into an umbrella to symbolize the title and the building that the characters live in. So far, the show has three seasons, and, in every season, it's given the title sequence as something relating to the Academy that the characters are in. So, it either shows an umbrella or a Sparrow, I just wanted the umbrella to be a bit more relevant.

Lastly, I chose the show Stranger Things. The title sequence for this is always the same in that the screen turns to black and the red neon font kind of appears and lingers for a while to create the sinister effect. This is one of those title sequences that can always be counted on to be the same throughout the whole season. I feel like the emptiness or the plainness of this opening credit fits with the show because it creates a like mysterious or foreshadowing aesthetic.

Don't forget to add how things like the font, font color, etc all contribute
