Movie Opener Brainstorming & Research

 Hello everyone!
So this blog post is going to be about some different examples of past AICE movie openers and my thoughts on them. Me and my team already have an idea about what we want our movie opening to look like or feel like, but maybe we'll get some more inspiration from these past clips.

4: Dare to Thrill    THIS ONE. Already from the title I liked it because it reminded me of the song Shoot to Thrill by AC/DC, so it was hard for me to be put off y it. AND IT DID NOT DISSAPPOINT. I really liked how fast-paced and adrenaline-inducing this opening was and dont get me started on the car scenes. The way that they filmed that race on the highway was AWESOME. And that last scene of them opening the car trunk and looking down at us was a shot I wanted to include in my movie, but I don't think I can. :(

After watching all of these movie's openers, I've decided that I really like the ones that don't exactly have a point. Like, all of the films that were made to show the fragility of life, mortality, or anything that serves as a warning or gives any sort of angsty feeling, that's not what I want. I want to create a film where everyone enjoys what's going on and is able to be happy without thinking about it. But then again, it's just so much more fun to make a horror movie so we'll probably end up making some things sad. And I definitely want to put the opening credits at the end of the film rather than somewhere in the middle.

1: Rise    This was a sports-related movie opening that I actually sort of liked. They used A LOT of close ups at the end of the film that I though was a tad bit cliché but it got the job done. It also had this one scene where the camera would go up and around the subject that I found to be really cool. Overall, sports aren't my thing so I was a little put off by it initially, but I liked it overall in the end.

2: LINK DID NOT OPEN

3: Dear Lover    This film confuses me because immediately I am opposed to any sort of romantic, drama-esqe movie EVER, so I went in with low expectations. However, I liked how they set up the ending when they were like “and that’s when I... actually, let me start at the beginning” I also thought it was cool how they would switch from the actual movie scenes to an interview type shot.

5: Always Watching    2 things: one- the title of this movie reminded me of the title of my favorite song and two- I love horror movies, so this one is automatically getting the Gold Star. I thought it was cool how they would jump from the therapy session to whatever scenes that the main character was explaining. I also think that the close-up shots of the main subjects' face was an excellent way to portray his insanity.

6: The Blue Boar    The costumes in this piece are just... AMAZING. like, where did they get this stuff? And then when they started singing out of nowhere, that caught me completely off guard, but it was pretty cool because it has shock factor. I also thought that the close-ups of the stern mother's mouth were a very fitting shot to portray such a strict and uncaring individual. Again, the title of this piece reminded me of some other piece of media I really like, but that's not a story for here.

7: White Coat    Alrighty, so right off the bat I really enjoyed the quick cut between the scenes and the lighting of the overall film. I think that since it is a science fiction/horror type movie, the lighting was done perfectly to create a suspenseful and foreshadowing mood. And the audio in the background gave it this very gloomy, dark aesthetic and it just brought it all together perfectly.

8: Stalker    This one lowered my standards and was a real wakeup call following all these past ones that I just watched. I know we're not supposed to judge based on acting, but I just couldn't focus on anything else. I found it odd that they put the title sequence in the middle of the film rather than like the ending where everyone else put it, and not to mention the copyrighted heartbeat sounds. at least she gets points for comedy.

8: Nostalgia    This one was also pretty slow, but I think that the shots and audio that they chose to do fit very well with the aesthetic they were trying to fit. I thought that the comparison between the old woman and the child was well done, and they did a great job creating an atmosphere of serenity and mortality.
