The Dirt Mood Board
For this mood board, I had chosen a movie titled “The Dirt.” It was about the uprising of the notorious rock band Motley Crue in the 80’s. Motley Crue rained hell on the Sunset Strip, and they are, after all, my favorite 80’s band, so I felt like this mood board doesn’t really do them justice.
Their whole schtick was the sex, drugs, and rock ‘n roll lifestyle, so there were a couple pictures in the board to represent that. For instance, the red picture in the middle on the top. That one is a picture of the guitarist, Mick Mars, playing his solo with a backdrop of a pentagram on fire. To the left of it, a picture of a guitar with a lit cigarette in the strings. In the movie, these characters were ALWAYS smoking (they even have a song title ‘Smoking in the Boy’s Room’) so this one felt necessary to include.
Under the guitar/cigarette picture are two photos of costumes or outfits that I think the set used to get inspiration when making the wardrobe. The first one details red flare pants and the second shows red latex platform heels (something these men had definitely worn in the 80’s.)
To the right of those is one that shows the Whiskey a Go-Go, the best place to perform if you wanted to get big. The Whiskey was THE place to get into. Once you were able to book a show and play for a crowd in the Whiskey, you knew you'd be successful in the rock world.
To the right of that one shows the actors in costume for the beginning of the movie. Starting from the left is Iwan Rheon (Mick Mars), Douglas Booth (Nikki Sixx), Coulson Baker (Tommy Lee), and Daniel Webber (Vince Neil). Those four are the soul members of Motley Crue. Above the picture of the cast are the actual members: Nikki Sixx (left) and Tommy Lee (right).
Overall, this board was kind of hard to make because I kept running into problems. For example: Blogger would be blocked, (courtesy of the restrictions on my google account), the mood board I made originally was deleted along with all the pictures I used so I had to make a completely new one, and I just kept forgetting to publish it. But it's done so I'm happy with it.
