Classmate Critique
The first classmate that I chose was Emily Jaramillo. for the transitions, she used the whip pan, walking jump cut, and iris fade shot. My favorite was The Walking jump cut, although I did like the whip pan too. The website does not allow me to comment, so I'll comment here. I liked the walking jump cut because of the different perspectives that she provided. Somewhere outside, somewhere inside; some were on top of things, and some were on the ground. One suggestion that I would make to fix it would be to make it smoother. For example, if the last shot is your foot in the top of the frame, make the next shot with your foot in the same position. All in all, the feeling or mood that the jump cut evoked was only a little bit frantic, but for me, mainly nostalgic. I think this because we see the shoes, but they're in different areas and still walking. It makes me question if they were going somewhere important, if it showed a passage of time and suddenly, they're older, etc.
The second classmate that I chose was Ashley Marshall. The three transitions that she used were the match cut, the smash cut, and the wipe. My favorite of the three was the wipe solely because it did what it needed to do. The first shot was subject just the standing there, but far away and, and then it wiped, and she's in the same spot just closer to the camera. One of the easiest transitions, but one of the funniest in my opinion. It was obvious that these transitions were made using iMovie, so my only suggestion would be to make them cleaner when you're making your actual movie. Like, yes, the wipe is funny, but if you make it smoother and cleaner or put the subject exactly in the same spot or maybe a little closer, then the comedic aspect would increase. Overall, the feeling or mood that was evoked from the wipe was humor. It was funny how Nicole was so far away, then a cheap transition, and then she's just right up in your face.
Also, here is a picture of my dog because a picture was necessary but I was not sure which picture to include!
